Weekend Split Decision
We here at Shrubville are more than happy to admit when Stantis has come up with something decent. In Saturday's strip Carmen tells Winslow to enjoy life, and he tells her he'll just wait for the DVD. Cute.
And then he has to go and throw out a strip that's just stupid.
In Sunday's strip, we see Winslow looking like Stantis's image of a Democrat - clueless. Then he looks like a moron, which is Shrubville's image of Republicans. The he looks like one of those Scotty dogs. Then he looks like he's taking a dump.
And what's the punchline? Winslow's trying to fly - USING HIS EARS. He's unsuccessful.
From where I'm sitting, this looks like Stantis saw this idea in another strip where one of the characters had ears big enough that people joked that he looked like if he flapped those things he could fly. So the character tried - and failed. Because, you know, people and animals can't fly with their ears. Well, except Dumbo.
Has anyone ever thought Winslow's ears were big enough for him to attempt flight? Has anyone even thought about Winslow's ears period?
Now if Stantinator had thought about this a minute, and was willing to let Carmen be the butt of a joke, he would have had the little girl on top of one of those weird rock formations, with Winslow standing behind her urging her to jump and "it'll be okay - I know it'll work." After much poking and prodding (and maybe even pushing), Carmen ends up in mid-air - and crashing to the ground. The punchline from Winslow: "I swear, I thought with those pigtails of yours you'd glide!" He'd have a devilish smile, knowing all along she would fail miserably. Because, as we neo-cons know, Dems want to see the Repubs fail.
But that's just me spitballing, and what do I know - I'm just a silly blogger. Not some big moneybags comic strip "writer/artist."
