TODAY'S STRIP
Carmen is trying to go somewhere, apparently either via airplane or, if she's in New York, the subway. Winslow, however, is on patrol - making her walk through an x-ray machine and running the dreaded wand up and down her American body. The Stantis message: even with all this extra security, none of us feel any safer.
That's right: Scott Stantis, LIBERAL.
I'm not sure what I did to deserve this, but this is the second time I've agreed with Stantis (although I don't consider myself a liberal - let's face it, as far right as the Republican Party has gone pretty much everybody in the country could be considered left of center). The Republicans and their Patriot Act and their knee-jerk reactions to terrorism want to turn the US into a police state, and Stantis recognizes this.
Is he finally seeing the light? Nah, I'm betting in Scooter's mind he thinks this is all part of the Liberal Conspiracy(c) to deny us our rights. But how can he? We all know Bush loves his Patriot Act, so much so that he wants a sequel. He's also so paranoid he's holding hundreds, if not thousands, of potentially innocent people down in G'itmo because they *might* be terrorists (have you heard of any convictions for terrorist acts? I haven't). And let's not forget the latest in fascism, the Real ID Card.
Maybe - just maybe - Stantis has stumbled on to something without knowing it. Maybe all this time Carmen has lived just over the border in Mexico, not New Mexico. She wants to cross the border, and Winslow won't let her without a thorough check. Could THAT be the solution? Monitoring our borders and ports to make sure the terrorists don't get in, instead of searching EVERY American already here because there's a slight slight chance that one of them might be a terrorist that, you know, illegally crossed the border?
Did Scoots think that up all by himself?
Nah, he probably just flew somewhere two weeks ago, got stopped and had to take off his shoes, and he's pissy about it.
Welcome to YOUR America, Stantis. Deal with it.
